Today Minsk is 959 years old. The main venues gathered in the center: concerts and a fair are held near the Palace of Sports, rescuers compete in Victory Park, and a historical reconstruction festival unfolded on the green area near the intersection of Pobediteley and Masherova avenues. The publication "Onliner" looked at what was happening there during the day.
The celebration of City Day began at 10:00 with the laying of flowers at the obelisk "Minsk — Hero City". After the official part, the events continued at other venues throughout the city.
At the "Ancient Minsk" festival, tents were set up, bonfires were lit, and horses were brought onto the site. Food is cooked over the fire, and re-enactors in clothing and uniforms from various historical periods walk around.
A separate part of the program is equestrian performances. Riders in armor traverse a distance with spears and swords, strike targets, and stage duels. Falls also occur: in one of the performances, a participant ended up on the ground while his horse continued to move.
In Victory Park, the international competition "Strongest Rescuer-Firefighter" is taking place. Participants go through the course in full gear, climb a metal structure, work with fire hoses, and pass through a smoky section. Electronic scoreboards track the time — every second counts.
City Day is planned to conclude with fireworks at 23:00.
