Lukashenka: Even if we wanted to supply potash to the West, there's nothing to supply
On September 21, Lukashenka received a report from Vladimir Orlovsky, Chairman of the State Customs Committee. During the conversation, he touched upon , among other things, the prospects of supplying Belarusian fertilizers to Western markets.
Lukashenka asked Orlovsky about the reorientation of trade flows to the East amid economic restrictions from the European Union and other Western countries. According to information provided to Lukashenka by the government and the Prime Minister, Belarus has generally managed to redirect trade flows to the East.
As one example, Lukashenka mentioned negotiations with the American side. Previously, he reported on the supply of Belarusian potash fertilizers to the United States. However, he claimed, it's impossible to supply large volumes of products because all fertilizers for this year have already been contracted. Lukashenka emphasized that even if they wanted to enter other Western markets, there are supposedly no free volumes of products.
Earlier, Lukashenka had already said something similar at the training ground near Baranovichi before the visit of U.S. President's Special Representative John Koole to Minsk. However, it seems that the main obstacle to large supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers to the United States is still the refusal of EU countries, despite pressure from the Americans, to allow their transit through the ports of the Baltic states. It is likely that this very issue was central to Koole's negotiations with the leadership of Lithuania and Latvia after his visit to Minsk.
