A Rare Red Book Mushroom with a Diameter of 40 Centimeters Found in Baravlyany
It has several folk names, including Ram Mushroom or Mushroom Cabbage.
Right next to a pedestrian path, Ihar Seviaryn found a rare Red Book mushroom — Sparassis crispa, whose diameter has already exceeded 40 centimeters, writes pristalica.by.

According to the mushroom picker, in his life he had only encountered Sparassis crispa a couple of times, but 'in the middle of the street' this happened for the first time. We decided to see the unique specimen with our own eyes.
Sparassis crispa has several folk names: 'Ram Mushroom', 'Mushroom Cabbage', or 'Hare's Cabbage'. It received these names due to the wavy shape of its curly lobes, which branch off from a central stem. Outwardly, the fruiting body truly resembles a beige-yellow cauliflower.
Typically, the height of this mushroom ranges from 5 to 20 cm, and the diameter from 6 to 30 cm. However, the specimen found in Baravlyany exceeded the usual dimensions: its diameter exceeded 40 cm, and it was quite firm to the touch.
Despite the appetizing name 'Mushroom Cabbage', the edibility of Sparassis crispa is disputed and requires caution. Many sources classify it as conditionally edible, however, due to its rarity and protected status, it has no gastronomic value. Furthermore, young specimens can be confused with other species, and old ones become tough and fibrous.
The main reason why this mushroom should not be touched, is that it is listed in the Red Book (Category IV status).
