Private houses must now stand further from the boundaries of a neighboring plot
In Belarus, the rules for building private houses and outbuildings on land plots have changed. The relevant norms were introduced by amendment No. 4 to resolution No. 70 of the Ministry of Architecture and Construction, published on the National Legal Internet Portal, writes Realt.by.

According to the new rules, a residential building must be located no closer than 3 meters from the boundary of an adjacent land plot, and outbuildings — no closer than 2 meters.
Previously, the requirements for a distance of 3 meters for a house and 2 meters for outbuildings were also in effect. However, there was an option to place a building closer to the specified boundary if the neighbor gave their notarized consent. This option has now been abolished.
A separate stipulation is provided for houses and other buildings that already exist in established developments and are located closer to an adjacent plot than provided by the new norms. However, they can only be reconstructed within their existing area and dimensions.
Reconstruction is also permitted if it does not increase the size of the building towards the adjacent plot. This means that it is now not allowed to make an extension towards a neighbor or move a wall closer to the fence, even if the neighbor agrees.
