While a Belarusian woman was visiting Minsk, squatters tried to break into her house in Spain
Aksana Bulataya from the Brest region has been living in Spain for 16 years. Recently, she decided to visit her homeland. And at that moment, she almost lost her property in the European Union.
Aksana shared on Instagram that her Spanish house in Valencia is a true fortress. Knowing the problem with squatters, she tried to foresee everything: she installed a modern alarm system for the house and yard, connected a perimeter video surveillance system. There are also armored doors and high-quality windows – plus bars everywhere. "This year, after my friend's house was broken into, I practically organized round-the-clock surveillance at my house," she says.
Ocupas in Spain are people who illegally move into someone else's, often empty, dwelling. Due to slow courts and strong legal protection for already occupied housing, it can be difficult for owners to evict them: this can take many months and significant money.
The travel blogger was confident that her property was safe, but to further secure it during her absence, she offered her children and her friend's children to live in the house all summer.
Nevertheless, one night Aksana's children came to the house and saw a strange dark-skinned group in the yard. Two adults and four children were walking around the dwelling with flashlights.
They were well-dressed, arrived in an expensive car, and spoke German among themselves. Aksana's son asked the strangers who they were and what they were doing there.
They didn't lose their composure and claimed that they had reserved the accommodation through Airbnb and even showed Aksana's address and some keys on their phone. The blogger is confident that the keys were someone else's.
After being caught red-handed, the family quickly got into the car and drove away, without developing their story about rented accommodation.
Aksana's daughter contacted the police – they promised to patrol the area for a few days.
