Union of Poles in Belarus Restores Grave of Polish General near Hrodna PHOTO FACT
In Sopoćkinie, Hrodna district, activists of the Union of Poles in Belarus are carrying out restoration work at the grave of Brigadier General of the Polish Army Józef Olszyna-Wilczyński. This was reported by the organization's chairwoman Anżelika Borys on her Facebook page, writes Hrodna.life.

On September 22, 1939, near Sopoćkinie, Soviet tankers stopped a car in which the general, his wife, and an adjutant were traveling. Olszyna-Wilczyński and the adjutant were shot, while the general's wife was released.
The general was buried in Sopoćkinie.

Józef Olszyna-Wilczyński was born in 1890. He served in the Polish Legions, participated in wars with the West Ukrainian People's Republic and Soviet Russia. From 1938, he commanded the Third Corps District in Hrodna, and in 1939 — the 'Hrodna' Operational Group.
