Lukashenka: We don't want to repeat Ukraine's fate

"I follow the mass media very carefully, because today war is also, first and foremost, waged in the media. And I will tell you frankly that sometimes I read with surprise what some people – be it bloggers or someone else – write regarding Belarus. About multi-vector foreign policy and so on. I have said many times that multi-vector foreign policy in no way distances us from the Russian Federation. Yes, we pursue a multi-vector policy because the economy is at its core," Lukashenka stated.

According to him, the West has stopped cooperating with him. Therefore, within the framework of multi-vector policy, he went to the South, Southwest, and East, developing relations with Africa.

"Our interests and vectors are where our economy is. This is not about our deep relations, first and foremost with you, the Russian Federation. Therefore, the chatter about this multi-vector approach and reproaches against Lukashenka are absolutely incompatible. Besides, I have been working as president for over 30 years. It's not for me to change any vectors now. Some have even gone so far as to say that 'Lukashenka is not an ally.' Well, that's a matter of taste. For now, we (and I think it will continue this way) find common ground with the leadership of the Russian Federation. Both with the President of Russia and with the leaders of the main parties. There are no disagreements in approaches.

We are patriots, we are ready to defend our Fatherland. And you should know that there is no retreat here, and certainly no betrayal, nor should there be. You see what betrayal leads to in Ukraine. We don't want to repeat that fate," Lukashenka said.

He also noted that Belarus seeks to develop all the production potential that remained from the times of the Soviet Union.

"We have lost nothing from Soviet times, closed nothing, covered nothing up. On the contrary – we developed. And since we, as the classic said, stood on the shoulders of giants, this contributed to preserving what we have today. This is important for any state," he said. "And here, China is very indicative for us. We are friends with Xi Jinping, often discuss this topic with him. And he often tells me that nothing (in China) was rejected: neither the period of Mao Zedong, nor Deng Xiaoping, no one. They took all the best. Well, look at the result of the PRC's development. It is the leading economy in the world, a leading country that everyone is forced to reckon with. Whether you love or hate China, like the Americans, you have to reckon with it."
