In 2010, Witold Jurasz headed the political department of the Polish Embassy in Minsk, and from April 2010 to February 2011, he served as Chargé d'Affaires a.i., head of the diplomatic mission. After completing his diplomatic career, he became a journalist and publicist.

In a conversation with journalist Bogdan Rymanowski on his YouTube channel, Jurasz recalled his time working in Belarus. According to the former diplomat, at that time, Belarusian authorities regularly created problems for representatives of the Polish minority. Among those who faced pressure, he named Andżelika Borys, Andrzej Poczobut, and Andżelika Orekhva.

"We thought for a very long time about what to do with this. And at one point, we managed to organize such an unpleasant situation for the Belarusian side, because all the Grodno and Brest elite used to travel to Białystok and Biała Podlaska, respectively, for shopping. We managed to compile a list of these most important Belarusians and their wives.

Purely by chance, they started to be detained at the border. Purely by chance, in the new car of one important Belarusian functionary's wife, the inner ceiling lining was unscrewed because a dog sniffed out drugs. No drugs were found, but it was unpleasant," Jurasz recounts.

According to the former diplomat, about two weeks later, the Belarusian side proposed to cease the mutual creation of problems.

But the Poles wanted Minsk to clearly understand the reason for what was happening at the border. Jurasz states that it was agreed that one of the heads of the Polish Border Guard would call him from Warsaw on an open line, which, according to the former diplomat, was monitored by Belarusian special services, and ask whether the "commotion" regarding Belarusians should continue, or if the Belarusian side had already retreated.

Jurasz believes that such a method of communication proved more understandable for the Belarusian authorities than diplomatic protests.

"Because that's the language. If you say, 'We protest,' well then, protest away. If you defend yourself, then defend yourself. What I'm talking about is the concept of 'de-escalatory escalation.' Russians use this in their strategy," he explained.

Ну если на границе, что то сломали при демонтаже и ничего не нашли … тогда становится весело. Восстанавливать приходится погранцам за свой счет как и собирать машину
