Two Belarusian universities — Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) and Belarusian State University (BSU) — were included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.

For BSMU, this marks its first inclusion specifically in the main Times Higher Education World University Ranking. The Medical University was placed in the 2001+ category, which includes institutions outside the primary ranked group. BSU is also represented in this same category.
The Times Higher Education ranking for 2027 covers more than 2200 universities from 118 countries and territories. Thus, Belarusian universities have entered the main international table, which compares higher education institutions from various countries worldwide.
The British University of Oxford took first place in the world ranking. The top five also included Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and Stanford University from the USA, as well as the University of Cambridge from Great Britain. Thus, this year all five top positions were occupied by universities from only two countries — Great Britain and the USA.
