"It is important for Europe to remain consistent." Tsikhanouskaya and Borrell discussed Belarusian resistance at an international forum in Spain
The democratic leader of Belarus took part in the dialogue "Belarus: Quiet Resistance" within the framework of the international La Toja Forum in Spain

Together with former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, they discussed the situation in Belarus, the democratic movement and the resistance of Belarusians to the regime, her press service reports.
During the conversation, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also thanked the EU and the USA for supporting Belarusian independent media, human rights organizations, NGOs, cultural and historical initiatives that were forced to move their work outside the country after 2020. She noted that this support allowed Belarusian civil society to preserve its structures and continue its work in exile.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya separately emphasized the need for a consistent EU policy towards dictatorships: "There may be a temptation to return to the previous state of affairs — to come to terms with the dictatorship, with Lukashenka, with Russia. But Europe is based on values and principles that it has always defended. If these are abandoned, Russia will use this as a weakness. Therefore, it is important for Europe to remain consistent."
For the La Toja Forum, the theme of democratic resistance also holds special significance. In 2022, the main award of the forum was received by the Ukrainian people — for the defense of democracy and resistance to Russian aggression. In 2024, Josep Borrell himself received the award, and the dialogue with him became one of the last international sessions of this year's forum.
