Denis Dubanevich, a mathematics teacher at Secondary School No. 5 in Smolevichi, at the Palace of the Republic was presented with the main prize of the "Teacher of the Year — 2026" contest — the "Grand Crystal Crane" and the keys to a new Geely car. He won the republican professional skills competition, writes BelTA.

Dubanevich said that preparation for the competition took almost a year. Along the way, he was supported by his family, colleagues, and the regional institute for education development. He participated in the republican competition for the second time. In 2014, the teacher took first place at the district stage but did not advance further.
This time, he didn't immediately agree to the principal's proposal to participate in the competition again, but ultimately decided to give it a try. According to him, the competition became an opportunity for him to meet highly qualified specialists and professionals in their field.
Dubanevich became a mathematics teacher following the example of his mother, who has been teaching the subject for almost 50 years. Among the results of his work are students who received diplomas at the final stage of the republican Olympiad and won at regional, republican, and international scientific and practical conferences. Three of his students scored 100 points on the centralized exam and centralized testing.
Dubanevich names a respectful attitude towards students as the main principle in working with children. He believes that a child should have the right to make mistakes.
The teacher also notes that a modern educator must constantly keep track of what interests children and keep up with the times. New gadgets and technologies emerge very quickly, so a teacher needs to be ready to discuss these topics with students.
At the same time, according to him, one should not abandon traditional pedagogical methods. Many of them have stood the test of time, but they need to be adapted to modern conditions.
