Political prisoner artist Aksana Shaliapina diagnosed with oncological disease
48-year-old artist Aksana Shaliapina has been imprisoned for almost a year and three months. In November 2025, the woman was convicted of assisting several dozens of political prisoners when they were in custody.
Aksana Shaliapina was sentenced to three years in a penal colony under Art. 361‑4 of the Criminal Code (facilitating extremist activities).
As it became known to human rights defenders of "Viasna", the woman was diagnosed with an oncological disease in Gomel correctional colony No. 4. Currently, the woman spends most of her time in the medical unit of the colony. It is unknown whether she is receiving proper medical care.
Earlier in July of this year, human rights defenders also learned about oncology in political prisoner Tatsiana Kolas. The woman is still in custody.
