Russian agents from the Telegram channel "Rybar" were spotted filming in Europe. After exposure, they fled
Employees of the "Rybar" channel, which is linked to Russian special services, are conducting filming in European Union countries, using various methods to conceal the true purpose of their activities. This was revealed by the Czech publication Seznam Zprávy.
The channel is linked to Mikhail Zvinchuk, a former employee of the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense, known by the pseudonym "Rybar".
Czech journalists managed to expose people working with Zvinchuk. They convinced them that they could arrange an interview with media literacy and disinformation expert Bohumil Kartaus. Kartaus had previously received an invitation for such a conversation. It stated that the Russian analytical center "Rybar" was preparing a documentary series about the current socio-political and economic situation in Europe.
The material from Czech investigators is recounted by the Russian independent Telegram channel Astra.
The expert was informed that filming was taking place not only in the Czech Republic but also in France, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Before the interview, Kartaus received a list of questions. Specifically, they intended to ask him about the growing support for right-wing and Euroskeptic forces in the Czech Republic, as well as the possibility of normalizing relations with Russia.
According to information from Czech journalists, the interview request came from Russian national Boris Dvorkin. He is described as a documentary film director who cooperates with the "History of the Fatherland" foundation. This foundation is headed by the director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin.
Correspondent Vitaly Chashchikhin and cameraman Igor Dolmatov arrived for the meeting with journalists. Czech journalists managed to identify them from the video recording of the meeting. According to Seznam Zprávy, both have documents allowing them to live in the European Union. Chashchikhin previously worked with Russian TV channels "Izvestia", "Fifth Channel" and REN TV.
When the participants in the filming realized that the meeting had been organized by journalists investigating their activities, they hastily left the scene.
According to the Czech publication, representatives of Russian propaganda also tried to obtain interviews with MEP Ivan David, Czech energy expert Vladimír Štěpán, former head of Czech military intelligence Andor Šándor, and Slovak publicist Samo Marec.
Moreover, for violating sanctions imposed against Mikhail Zvinchuk and "Rybar", participants in the filming in the Czech Republic could face up to eight years in prison.
This July, the UK imposed sanctions against the leadership and employees of the Z-channel "Rybar", linked to the Russian Ministry of Defense. In February, ChatGPT blocked a network associated with this channel. Its authors used artificial intelligence to spread Kremlin narratives to an international audience. In autumn 2024, US authorities announced a reward of up to 10 million dollars for information about the Telegram channel "Rybar".
