Ilham Aliyev Stated There Are Only Two Superpowers in the World. Russia Is Not Among Them
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that in the modern world there are only two superpowers — the USA and China. He said this at the VIII Congress of the ruling "New Azerbaijan" party.

According to Aliyev, Washington and Beijing are the only countries that can be called global superpowers.
"These are two global superpowers, there is no third," he stated.
Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan maintains strategic relations with both the USA and China. With Beijing, Baku signed a comprehensive declaration on strategic partnership, and with Washington — a Strategic Charter.
The Azerbaijani president noted that there is competition between China and the USA, however, agreements between the two states and the development of common rules based on mutual understanding are of great importance for the whole world.
In addition, Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan has a strategic partnership with a number of European Union states. According to him, this format of cooperation is in effect with ten EU countries.
Earlier, in May, a similar position was expressed by US President Donald Trump. He also named only the USA and China as superpowers, stating that Washington ranks first in the world in military power, and Beijing — second.
