During negotiations between the US and Russia on ending the war in Ukraine, the parties are also discussing a multi-billion dollar deal related to the assets of the Russian oil company Lukoil. The New York Times reported this on October 3.

The deal could include Lukoil's oil fields, refineries, and a network of gas stations in various countries. Specifically, it concerns fields in Cameroon, refineries in Europe, and gas stations in the American state of New Jersey. Its implementation would require approval from the US government and the Kremlin.
According to The New York Times, American investor and billionaire Todd Boehly, two Middle Eastern entities that previously collaborated with Jared Kushner or Steve Witkoff's family, and a unit of the US government are involved in promoting the deal. Boehly donated $2 million to Donald Trump's political projects.
The newspaper notes that there are no signs that Kushner or Witkoff themselves will directly benefit from the deal. However, according to the publication, business partners associated with them may benefit.
According to The New York Times, citing informed sources, Vladimir Putin raised the topic of this deal during a meeting with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in the Kremlin on September 5. According to one of the newspaper's interlocutors, Putin proposed concluding the agreement to demonstrate to Russians the possibility of doing business with the United States.
The final decision on the deal, according to the publication, depends on Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
The White House, the US Treasury Department, and Lukoil did not respond to The New York Times' requests for comment on the information.
