Trump nominated John Coale, Special Envoy for Belarus, as Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs
US President Donald Trump announced personnel changes in the diplomatic corps. The American lawyer, who previously oversaw negotiations with Minsk, will now focus on the release of compatriots worldwide.

Donald Trump announced this on his social media platform Truth Social. John Coale, who previously served as the US Special Representative for Belarus, will become the new Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, with the rank of Ambassador.
Justifying the appointment, Trump referred to Coale's achievements in his previous role. According to the head of the White House, over the past year, the lawyer secured the return of more than 65 Americans and citizens of allied countries from Belarus.
Additionally, Trump stated that Coale conducted successful negotiations for the release of over 800 political prisoners from various Eastern European countries. In his new position, he will focus on returning American citizens to their homeland.
In this role, John Coale will replace Adam Boehler. Trump noted that during his tenure, Boehler secured the return of 196 hostages.
After concluding his work as Special Envoy, Boehler will remain within the US administration as a Senior Advisor and will continue to oversee other issues.
