Two years ago, a Belarusian dancer was killed in Italy. Now her Polish partner has been convicted for it
46-year-old Belarusian former dancer Hanna Herasimchyk was found dead on June 13, 2024, in her apartment in Pozzuolo Martesana near Milan. And on June 22, 2026, the Milan Court of Assizes sentenced 43-year-old Polish truck driver Marek Konrad Danec, the victim's partner, to ten years in prison. He was found guilty of manslaughter, according to Il Giorno.

In the recently published motives for the verdict, the court explained why no general mitigating circumstances were found in the man's actions. According to the judges, Danec deliberately chose not to end the "toxic" relationship with his partner, periodically engaged in violent arguments, and repeatedly jeopardized her health.
At the same time, the court took into account his state of irritation and frustration, which was repeatedly discussed during the trial, as well as his attempts to avoid provocations from the woman. Therefore, the court deemed it appropriate to impose the minimum penalty prescribed by law.
Danec was arrested in December 2024 on suspicion of intentional homicide. He was later released from custody and placed under house arrest.

The expert examination ruled out intentional homicide, after which the prosecution changed the charge from intentional homicide to involuntary manslaughter. The court also noted that Danec was unaware of his partner's illness, and therefore he was not found to have so-called indirect intent.
However, during the last argument, the man, according to the court's decision, repeatedly hit the woman hard, violently grabbed and held her, possibly knocked her down, and also covered her mouth with his hand. Thus, he forced Hanna to defend herself from the blows, even though he knew about her particular physical vulnerability, including that related to alcohol abuse.
The judges described the couple's relationship as toxic. According to them, Danec became increasingly irritated, but at the same time continued to claim that he loved Hanna. They often argued, and the woman, as the accused claimed, behaved provocatively. Even during conflicts, he continued to buy her cigarettes, wine, and medicine.
The court concluded that in such a relationship between partners, the possibility of extremely severe consequences had to be considered, even if they were not desired or could have occurred accidentally. According to the case materials, that is exactly what happened in the end.
