Ukrainian military announced a successful operation 'Veles', with which they foiled Russian plans to attack Kupyansk
The Ukrainian military announced Operation 'Veles', which simultaneously took place underground, on the ground, and in the air. They advanced more than 15 kilometers underground into the rear of Russian troops.

The 'Khartiia' Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine reported on Operation 'Veles' in the Kupyansk direction. According to the military, they advanced through underground communications into the Russian rear, simultaneously attacking on the surface and with drones.
The idea arose after observing the actions of Russian troops. According to the corps commander, Brigadier General Ihor Abolensky, they themselves intended to use gas pipelines to penetrate the Ukrainian rear.

«We observed how the enemy operates underground. And we studied how they do it. The Russians intended to use gas pipelines to penetrate the rear of our troops. Then we ourselves went underground. We anticipated the enemy's actions and mastered the tactics of conducting combat operations underground,» Abolensky explained.
According to 'Khartiia', Ukrainian forces advanced more than 15 kilometers through underground communications. The corps claims that the combination of this maneuver with surface attacks and drone strikes allowed them to thwart the plans of Russian troops to reach the rear of Kupyansk.
The corps reports more than 30 prisoners and Russian losses exceeding 100 personnel.
