American carried a lottery ticket in his wallet for two months, unaware he won a million
A resident of the American state of Michigan carried a lottery ticket in his wallet for almost two months, which brought him $1 million, but he didn't even suspect he had won. 54-year-old Michael only found out when he asked a cashier to check several old tickets.

The man bought a Powerball ticket at one of the stores. During the drawing on August 8, he matched all five main numbers — 5, 9, 35, 54, and 63. This brought him a million dollars. However, Michael did not check the results and continued to carry the ticket with him.
One day he went into a store for a drink and found that he didn't have enough cash. Instead of paying with a bank card, the man handed the cashier several old lottery tickets, on which, he assumed, there were small winnings.
In the USA, Powerball tickets are sold in regular stores. A cashier can scan a ticket and check if there's a win and where it can be claimed. Small amounts are usually paid on the spot, while for large prizes, one must contact the state lottery institution.
When the employee scanned Michael's tickets, one of them showed a message indicating the need to contact the lottery office. The man then got into his car, opened the results of the corresponding drawing on his phone, and compared the numbers.
“I immediately recognized those numbers and started going crazy with excitement! I can't believe I carried a million-dollar ticket in my wallet for almost two months and didn't even know it,” the winner said.
Michael has already contacted the lottery headquarters to claim the prize. He plans to pay off his mortgage and invest the remaining money.
