"Lies almost cost the lives of more than 10 veterinarians." Vet clinic told about a case of rabies
Only after the sudden death of the animal did it become clear that the cat had rabies.
In the account of the Minsk veterinary clinic "Doctor Vet", they told about a recent case with a patient. The video talks about a cat to whom specialists provided assistance, writes Onliner.by.
Only after the sudden death of the animal did it become clear that the cat had rabies. At the same time, the owners ruled out contact of the pet with other animals. Now more than 10 employees are forced to undergo a course of emergency vaccination.
The video detailed the chronology of the incident.
The cat was delivered to the "Doctor Vet" clinic in a state of general depression and lethargy.
The animal also suffered from complete pelvic paraplegia — paralysis of both hind legs. It is known that a week before, there were complaints of lower back pain and refusal to eat.
"Before this, the owners had already visited several clinics, but without success. The cat was not vaccinated, but had no access to the street, and the owner ruled out contact with other animals," the video states.
Specialists of the vet clinic began a full diagnosis of the animal. But they did not have time to complete it — the cat suddenly died.
"During treatment, the owners suspiciously clarified: «Could this not be rabies?» Rabies? We strongly rejected this version, despite the neurological symptoms, because the virus cannot be brought on clothes or shoes — direct contact is needed: a bite, a scratch, or saliva from a sick animal. The owners ruled this out," the veterinary doctor continues the story.
After the animal's death, the owners privately decided to conduct a rabies test.
"And what was our surprise when a positive result came back. How is this possible, the cat is domestic? The sanitary-epidemiological station told us that this cat had contact with a bat, which was not reported to us during the anamnesis collection.
Due to the fact that the owners concealed this information, more than 10 of my colleagues — doctors and assistants of our clinic — found themselves under mortal threat, were hospitalized, and are currently undergoing a course of emergency vaccination," the video continues.
The specialist particularly emphasized: rabies is incurable, it cannot be diagnosed with 100% certainty during life, and after the appearance of symptoms, the mortality rate is 100%.
"According to the legislation of Belarus, vaccination against rabies is mandatory for all dogs and cats. Veterinary doctors have the right to refuse to examine an unvaccinated animal. Be honest with doctors — it's a matter of people's lives," the authors of the post emphasized.

At the time of publication, the video had garnered about 150 thousand views and 500 comments.
