Traffic Police explained how the "board of shame" works near Minsk
Viktor Rotchenkov, Head of the Main Directorate of the State Automobile Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, explained how the so-called "board of shame" works on the R-53 "Slabada — Zhodzina — Navasady" highway near Minsk and whether similar devices are planned to be installed in other regions of the country.

The information board received this name in social networks. Its principle of operation is as follows: when a camera records a traffic violation, the license plate number of the offender's car appears on an electronic screen approximately five kilometers further.
According to Rotchenkov, the system is currently operating in test mode, but has already shown results. The Traffic Police note that the number of violations recorded by this complex has significantly decreased.
The head of the Traffic Police also mentioned feedback from internet users who suggested, for example, displaying not only the car's license plate but almost the driver's photograph on the board. However, the department considers the publication of just the license plate sufficient: the driver themselves can identify it, but other road users and casual passers-by cannot identify the offender.
In 2026, the police plan to summarize the results of observations on the system's operation. After that, similar complexes may appear on other highways. Where exactly they will be installed has not yet been decided: according to Rotchenkov, these will be locations where such a system can truly influence road safety.
Earlier, the National Center for Personal Data Protection questioned the legality of this new intelligent system by the Traffic Police.
