Trump is not afraid that a potash deal with Belarus could strengthen Russia's position
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is not afraid of a possible strengthening of Russia's position as a result of an agreement with Belarus on potash fertilizer supplies. He said this on September 22 in New York during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

A journalist asked Trump if he was concerned that funds from a potential deal with Belarus could somehow strengthen Russia's position on the international stage.
“No, not at all. Belarus has a lot of potash fertilizers, and our farmers need favorable prices. We want to achieve a lower price than in Canada. We will continue to cooperate with Canada, but Belarus would like to sell them at a much lower price,” Trump replied.
On September 21, Trump announced that the U.S. is working on a major deal to purchase potash fertilizers from Belarus. In his opinion, American companies could acquire Belarusian products at a lower price than they currently buy them in Canada. In Canada, they doubt that Belarusian potash, including delivery, would genuinely be cheaper on its own, but they do not deny that its appearance on the market could affect prices.
