In 2026, the amount of the Nobel Prize in each category was increased by 1 million Swedish kronor — approximately 101 thousand dollars. Now each laureate will receive 12 million kronor, which is about 1.2 million dollars.
Hanna Stjärne, Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation, explained that the increase in the amount is intended to preserve the long-term significance of the prize and its financial value.
The increase in the award is timed to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the Nobel Prize. It was first awarded in 1901. In 2012, the foundation reduced the monetary payment as part of a financial optimization program, but has since increased the amount several times.
The Nobel Prize laureates for 2026 will be announced from October 5 to 12.
The prizes, established according to the will of the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel, are awarded for achievements in the fields of chemistry, physics, medicine or physiology, literature, and for strengthening peace. A separate prize in economic sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel was established by the Bank of Sweden in 1968, and it was first awarded in 1969.
In 2025, the full amount of the Nobel Prize was 11 million Swedish kronor, or about 1.17 million dollars.
