Former MI6 head John Sawers believes that no peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is possible until next spring, writes Financial Times.

He added that a return to the level of military actions after 2014 might be the best that can be achieved under current circumstances.

The possibility of successful ceasefire negotiations might emerge in 2027, "if the pain on both sides continues to grow" and if "the progress that the Russians have achieved on the ground… does not resume," said the former head of British intelligence.

However, he believes that lasting peace will not come as long as Vladimir Putin remains in power.
