"He's a legend." Hrodna residents looked for that same kind bus driver. It turned out the whole city knows Leanid

The occasion was a story by a Hrodna resident, published before City Day. Around 9:20 PM, she was walking down a dark street in heavy rain. An empty bus, heading to the depot, stopped nearby, and the driver called the girl into the cabin:

— Hurry up and get in, or your feet will get wet and you'll get sick!

Later, she transferred to another bus. Since Lenin Street was to be closed the next day, the driver warned passengers about the route change. But he didn't do it with a dry official phrase:

— Folks, tomorrow Lenin Street will be closed, we'll take a different route. The kids will be performing there, be sure to come!

"And it made my soul so warm," the Hrodna resident wrote.

The post gathered hundreds of likes and dozens of comments about the kind driver:

"I don't remember his last name. A positive uncle, always jokes, congratulates us on Christmas and Easter if the route is late," one user wrote.

"And he always asks to give up seats for children so they don't fall," another passenger added.

Another Hrodna resident noted that the driver warns people which transport is coming next if someone needs to transfer. One passenger recounted how he apologized for a slight delay. She replied: "Thank you for being late," — because otherwise, she wouldn't have made it to the bus herself.

Back in April 2025, a video of an "incredibly positive bus driver on route №30" appeared on Instagram.

"He's known my mom since the 1990s. Drives different routes, seats children, congratulates on holidays, loves to chat," one user wrote.

"I also had the luck to ride with this driver, and my son even got a candy from him."

"One in a million!"

"And recently he worked on route 34, and for us, medics, our mood immediately lifted after work. Once again, a big thank you for your positive attitude and care."

"He's a legend," that's how Hrodna residents write about him.

In June 2025, a whole "fun mini-trip" on route №35 appeared online.

Behind the wheel for about 35 years

This positive driver is Leanid Marmysh. He recently turned 61 on September 3.

Leanid Marmysh was born in the village of Volia-Krupitsy, Mosty district. At 17, he enrolled in the Hrodna State Auto Training Complex. After graduating in 1983, he received B and C category licenses and began working in Slonim, where he delivered bread. A year later, he was drafted into the army and served in Moscow.

After the army, Marmysh returned to Hrodna and obtained a D category license. Over the years, he worked as a bus driver in Hrodna, Minsk, and Moscow, and then returned to his hometown. His total driving experience is about 35 years.

At various times, passengers encountered him on routes №2, №16, №30, and №35. He is remembered by the city residents primarily for his manner of speaking with passengers.

Back in December 2022, one passenger left a review on the Hrodna bus depot page:

"A big thank you to driver Leanid Mikhailavich Marmysh, who worked on December 16 on route two. Very positive. Congratulated everyone on New Year's, lifted the mood of the whole bus. We need more like him."

Leanid Mikhailavich is especially attentive to children. He has a granddaughter, Mia, who is now about six years old. Marmysh simply explained his special warmth towards children: he would like strangers to treat his granddaughter with the same attention and kindness. Therefore, before starting the movement, he checks if passengers are holding onto the handrails and if children have managed to sit down.

Marmysh's care also extends to animals: during late rides, he has repeatedly noticed hedgehogs on the roadway, stopped the bus, and moved them to a safe place.
