Yauhen Karaulaŭ from the CC: "I was offered to cooperate with the KGB. And I said 'yes'"

Yauhen Karaulaŭ, who recently ran for the position of Secretary of the Coordination Council, wrote that the KGB has been terrorizing his family in Belarus for three months, and detailed how the Chekists tried to involve him in their orbit.

On June 25, Karaulaŭ received a call from his grandmother's phone, but instead of her, a man was on the line, who introduced himself as Zhenya and said: "You know who we are."

Prior to this, Karaulaŭ's relatives had already been searched multiple times, and once, a picture from a Minsk apartment was even sent from an unknown number. But this form of communication with Lukashenka's special services was new to him.

According to the man, he immediately wrote to his CC faction "Nastu" and human rights defenders; he was advised to quietly end the conversation, but the Chekist, with threats towards his relatives, forced him to continue. The conversation lasted about 45 minutes, "they were most interested in the Coordination Council: how it works and what it does." But Karaulaŭ, according to him, said nothing more than what could be found online.

"At one point, I was offered to cooperate with the KGB. At first, I replied 'uh-huh', but they demanded a clear answer from me, and under pressure, fearing for my family, I said 'yes'. I was also ordered not to tell anyone about this conversation, but it was already too late."

And only after the Chekists took Karaulaŭ's contact number and demanded an SMS code to log into his Telegram account:

"This sobered me up. I didn't receive the code, so I said so, adding that I wasn't going to send anything, and hung up."

After that, Yauhen was still texted from his mother's phone, demanding that he get in touch immediately, but "I blocked their accounts, and no one contacted me anymore."

Later, his relatives were not left alone: they came to their work and home, confiscated equipment, his mother was interrogated twice, and they "asked her to tell me that they just wanted to 'talk'."

"And this morning they called from my grandmother's phone. I immediately blocked it again. They said that tomorrow evening they would come again and take the phone to 'just talk'," Karaulaŭ shares.

And finally, he gives everyone advice:

"If you receive a call from the KGB, including from your relatives' numbers, do not engage in conversation. Block them immediately, because if you start talking, they won't let go. And immediately write to human rights defenders; they will help."
