Belarusian caught a giant pike with a 'mouse' lure

Viachaslau caught a 12-kilogram fish in the Vileika Reservoir.

The predator bit last Saturday evening, when Viachaslau and his father Mikhail were fishing at a depth of about five meters, according to "Vileyka News".

— It was standing somewhere a meter to a meter and a half from the bottom. My father netted it and pulled it into the boat. In a week, on the 20th, it's his 70th birthday, so this is a gift, — Viachaslau shared.

As bait, the man used a "mouse" — a surface artificial lure that imitates a swimming rodent.

The weight of the caught pike was 12 kilograms, which is considered a rare catch.

However, not everyone shared the lucky fisherman's joy. In thematic communities, a discussion unexpectedly erupted: some commentators believed that such an aged predator should have been released back into the water.

"It's over 30 years old. Couldn't you have caught five two-kilogram fish if you needed cutlets so badly?" — one of the discussion participants fumed.

Others defended the photo's author, arguing that fish are a renewable resource, and anglers, unlike poachers, always give their catch a fair chance to fight.
