Nausėda's Advisor: Drone shot down last night over Lithuania likely deviated from its course
It is not yet clear whether the drone was Russian or Ukrainian.
After NATO fighters shot down a drone in Kaišiadorys district on Tuesday night, Deividas Matulionis, chief advisor to the Lithuanian president on national security, stated that the drone likely veered off course, writes LRT.
According to him, it is currently unclear whether it was a Russian or Ukrainian drone.
"Most likely, it is a Russian or Ukrainian drone that deviated from its course, but as of today, we cannot say for sure," Matulionis said on Tuesday in an interview with radio station Ziniu radijas.
"It is also possible that it was deliberately launched into Lithuanian territory. The investigation should provide an answer to this," the official noted.
He warned that the number of such incidents might increase. Commenting on social media reports that the drone's sound was heard even before the official statement from the authorities, the president's advisor called it a normal situation.
According to him, a certain amount of time passes from the moment radars detect a flying object until warnings are sent to residents, as the decision is made based on defined criteria.
"This is a matter of several minutes. Who noticed it first — a resident or the military — is not fundamentally important," Matulionis said.
