Belarusian woman deceived self-checkout tills in a store for several months

In Klichaw, the court sentenced a local resident who was found guilty of attempted covert theft of property. For several months, the woman tried in various ways to avoid paying for goods in a large retail chain store, reported the press service of the Mogilev Regional Court.

As established by the court, from January to April 2026, the woman repeatedly stole food products, hygiene products, household chemicals, and other goods. In some cases, she scanned purchases at the self-checkout, received a preliminary receipt, but did not pay for the goods and left the store.

In other cases, when weighing goods, the woman indicated products with a lower price than what she actually selected. Thus, over several months, the woman covertly took out goods worth more than 770 rubles. The total value of the property she attempted to steal amounted to approximately 830 rubles.

The last attempt occurred on April 6. The woman tried to take goods worth more than 50 rubles from the store, but she was stopped by a security guard at the exit of the retail area. She was unable to complete her plan.

In court, the woman fully admitted her guilt. When passing the sentence, the court took into account her sincere repentance, the fact that she has three minor children under her care, and the voluntary compensation for the damage caused. The court found no aggravating circumstances.

As a result, the woman was sentenced to one year of imprisonment. However, the court decided not to enforce this punishment if, during a probationary period of one year, she does not commit a new crime and fulfills the obligations imposed upon her.
