Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia twice in the past few weeks tried to attack his presidential plane with drones. He told this in an interview with CBS News, published on September 15.

According to Zelenskyy, the first incident occurred during his stay in Moldova.

"My presidential plane was in Moldova, and that's why they attacked Moldova," the Ukrainian president said.

Zelenskyy also reported that another similar incident occurred when he was returning to Ukraine via Chișinău. According to him, one or two drones again entered Moldova's airspace. This second incident had not been reported previously.

The President of Ukraine believes that such actions were part of Russia's strategy to intimidate him and other foreign leaders.

The first known incident occurred on September 8. Zelenskyy, along with his wife, flew to Norway to attend the funeral of King Harald and hold talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Støre later said that during the presidential plane's departure from Moldova, a drone almost collided with it.

Moldova's Ambassador to the USA, Vladislav Kulminski, suggested that a Russian drone might have intentionally flown into Moldovan airspace precisely when Zelenskyy's plane was at Chișinău airport. However, he stressed that it was too early to state that the drone's target was a direct attack on the President of Ukraine.

Sources in the Office of the President of Ukraine previously reported that Zelenskyy's plane and the Russian drone were not in the air simultaneously. The Ukrainian side monitored the drone's flight and waited until it disappeared from radar, after which the plane could proceed.

On September 10, the Associated Press reported that the drone crashed approximately 160 kilometers from Chișinău airport. Four fires broke out after the crash, but no one was injured.

Moldovan authorities temporarily closed the country's airspace to ensure the safety of aircraft in the sky. As a result, three flights were delayed, including the plane carrying Zelenskyy.

Later, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova reported that a Shahed-type drone had effectively paralyzed the airport's operations. It was also established that this UAV had entered Romanian airspace.
