The reconstruction of the Kamenny Log border crossing point on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border is planned to begin this year and be completed by 2029. This was announced at a press conference by Viktor Zubik, head of the main department for customs control organization of the State Customs Committee.
According to the official, after the reconstruction, the crossing point's throughput should increase approximately threefold. The projected figure will be up to 6,000 vehicles per day.
A representative of the State Customs Committee noted that the current number of border crossing points is insufficient for the required traffic volumes. At the same time, authorities are working to make border crossing more convenient for Belarusian citizens. To achieve this, waiting areas and electronic queues are being introduced at all border crossing points.
Viktor Zubik also reminded that this year, the possibility of remote registration of vehicles for border crossing has become available across the country. A person can register from home at the specific border crossing point they plan to use, monitor queue movement, and calculate arrival time. According to him, this has eliminated the so-called "live" queuing.
Furthermore, since January 1 of this year for passenger cars, and since April 1 for trucks, a paid service for booking the date of state border crossing has been in effect. According to the State Customs Committee, this service is in demand.
