Scammers will massively trick pensioners until October 1

On the eve of the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1, an increase in the activity of telephone scammers is expected in Belarus. The police warned about a new scheme targeting pensioners.

Unknown individuals may call elderly people, introducing themselves as employees of the Social Protection Fund. They may report alleged holiday payments by October 1 and offer to "process" them. To do this, scammers try to obtain personal data or codes from SMS messages.

The police emphasized that there are no "safe accounts," which scammers often talk about, and real employees of state bodies never ask for SMS codes.

If, during such a call, they demand personal data or ask to follow any instructions, you should immediately hang up. Do not comply with the demands of strangers, even if they talk about pension recalculation, work experience verification, or additional payments.

If necessary, information about payments or other issues can be independently verified using the official phone numbers of state bodies listed on their websites.
