Acceptance of applications for Italian visas suspended. It was previously revealed that a suspect in the Leipzig sabotage received a visa in Minsk

In Belarus, registration of new applicants for the waiting list to submit documents for an Italian visa through the VFS visa center has been temporarily suspended. This was announced by VFS Belarus on September 15, 2026, in coordination with the Italian Embassy in Belarus.

Registration of new applicants for the waiting list is closed until further notice. When it will resume is currently unknown. Officially, the suspension is due to waiting for further instructions from the Italian Embassy.

Those who managed to register before the suspension do not need to worry: their registration remains valid, and their place in the queue is preserved. There is no need to submit a new request, as this will not affect their position in the queue or expedite obtaining a date for document submission.

Registered applicants are advised to regularly check the email address they provided during registration. This is where information about available dates and times for submission will be sent. It is also advisable to check the spam folder, as messages from VFS may end up there.

The visa center will additionally announce the resumption of registration for new applicants on its website.

It was previously reported that a suspect in the sabotage at Leipzig airport received a visa at the Italian embassy in Minsk. German investigators identified two alleged participants in an attempted drone attack with explosives on the airport. One of them is a Russian citizen whom German authorities link to the GRU, and the other is a citizen of Belarus who had previously attracted the attention of European law enforcement agencies.
