"I built a career, only to now quit for an agrarian field? Definitely yes!" Deans of Gorki Academy won over social media

The official Instagram accounts of the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy published a video inviting people to enroll. Mikalai Kudravets, Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Aquaculture, holds a large plastic bottle with a nipple and strokes an artificial calf, offering to teach how to properly raise cows. His colleague, Andrei Harnouski, Dean of the Agrotechnological Faculty, suggests studying digital technologies and creating new plant varieties.

To avoid unnecessary stress, they propose signing a targeted agreement and enrolling without exams. The video was clearly aimed at recent school graduates but attracted a completely different audience – people going through a mid-life crisis. They were captivated by the sincerity and simplicity of the agrarians, who love their work and are not ashamed of it.

Commentators – IT specialists tired of writing code, marketers, and financial directors – admit that after watching the video, they suddenly wanted to abandon their offices in Minsk, St. Petersburg, Moscow, or even London and go to Horki to study agricultural sciences.

"I'm in a mid-life crisis: Agrotechnological Faculty."

"I'm 47, I graduated from BSEU, and then even taught there. But why do I suddenly want to enroll in a faculty where they'll teach me to drive a tractor?"

"I built a career in marketing and communications for 10 years, only to now quit and go to the Belarusian Agricultural [Academy]? Definitely yes."

"My son isn't even three years old yet, can you wait? He's 1/8 Belarusian, will he qualify for a targeted agreement?"

Even Russian blogger and urbanist Ilya Varlamov commented: "Sounds not bad, gotta go!" The blogger was reminded that he still has time – until July 29, one can enroll with a targeted agreement without exams. However, they immediately warned that he would have to work off five years instead of two.

Belarusian men can charm anyone

Against the backdrop of young influencer bloggers who sell beautiful lives, successful success, and courses on pseudoscientific practices, the image of mature, solid men engaged in a down-to-earth profession turned out to be a breath of fresh air for many. Confident and sincere, dressed in simple summer suits with light trousers and short-sleeved blue shirts – they captivated many women. Viewers sensed reliability and calm in the video's heroes – scarce qualities in the digital age.

"Oh, these Belarusian men. They can charm anyone."

"Was I the only one rewatching to check if the comrades had rings?"

"I think I want to marry a Belarusian man."

"You can immediately tell – they're real men!"

"So nicely filmed... A good, positive, and useful profession, and such deans!"

Some commentators, noticing the distinct Belarusian pronunciation that two centuries of Russification couldn't eradicate from the provinces, noted the untapped potential: "Well, why, why do these men, with such an accent, not speak the language that would sound natural from their lips?"

However, the Belarusian pronunciation was not to the liking of some Russian purists. Nor was the fact that local residents principally write "белАрусы" in Russian (instead of "белорусы").

"And their speech is the same: ischo... tibya... nauchym..." – began the indignant comments.

"If you speak Russian, speak correctly," a guy from Volgograd emphatically stated.

Belarusians immediately came to the defense of their right to their own accent:

"But we are in Belarus, not Russia, what's the point of bothering people about their speech?"

To the ironic question of whether the Horki Academy teaches how to pronounce the letter "h" and if it's part of the curriculum, representatives of the institution regrettably replied: "It is not part of the curriculum."
