Lukashenka intends to fight the "ocean of cars" in Minsk courtyards
Alexander Lukashenka instructed the Minsk leadership to consider how to reduce the number of personal cars in areas near residential buildings. He stated this on September 3 during a report by the chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev.
Lukashenka noted that some courtyard areas in Minsk appear overloaded with cars. According to him, instead of green zones near houses, real "oceans of cars" sometimes form, spoiling the city's appearance.
He emphasized that it is impossible to completely get rid of cars, but a solution to the parking problem must be sought. He believes that more space should remain near residential buildings for trees, shrubs, flower beds, and people's recreation.
"There is a house, in front of it a square up to the roadway — good, beautiful. But this is a rarity. In other cases, it's an ocean of cars. Dirty somewhere, grimy. Well, it's not very beautiful when the building is drowning in a series of these cars. We need to think about what to do. We won't get rid of cars. But we need to think about what to do with these parking lots. In front of the house, near the house, people should still breathe clean nature — trees, bushes, flowers, flower beds, and so on."
In his opinion, cars should be gradually moved to parking lots located further away from houses. This would allow for the creation of more comfortable conditions for residents, including children and the elderly.
Such an approach could bring significant profits to developers who will build multi-story parking lots.
