The famous Smolensk Market, whose total history spans more than 160 years, has been put up for auction in Vitebsk. The corresponding lot appeared on the GosTorg page, writes Blizko.by.
The property includes a covered food market building, another market building, storage facilities, a public toilet, a warehouse, a veterinary and sanitary expertise laboratory building, a heating network, as well as 210 units of commercial and technological equipment.
The market is located on Smolensk Square in the center of Vitebsk. The area of the land plot is 1.4225 hectares. The starting price of the lot is 25 million rubles, which, at the current exchange rate of the National Bank, corresponds to approximately 8.3 million dollars. The auction will take place on October 29 at 14:00.
According to the "Vitebsk Encyclopedia", it operated under the name Smolensk Market already in the 1860s. At that time, the market was located on the square now named after Lenin.
In 1921, the old market buildings began to be demolished, after which the market moved to the current Smolensk Square. In 1985, a two-story covered pavilion with 200 trading places was built there. Its area was 1800 square meters, and the total market area was about 10 thousand square meters.
