Aleksandr Yakobson, former chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee and chairman of the State Control Committee, has died, reports "Gomelskaya Pravda". The former high-ranking official was 75 years old.

Aleksandr Yakobson was born in Gomel on April 18, 1951. In 1973, he graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Railway Transport Engineers.
He began his career in a construction trust in the Arctic region of Murmansk Oblast. After serving in the Soviet Army, he worked for ten years in various positions at "Gomelpromstroy".
From 1985, Yakobson worked in party and state bodies. He was an instructor of the construction department of the Gomel Regional Committee of the CPB, first secretary of the Svetlogorsk District Committee of the CPB. From 1986 to 1996, he headed the executive committee of the Svetlogorsk City Council of People's Deputies and the Svetlogorsk City Executive Committee.
Until 2001, he served as First Deputy Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, and also as Chairman of the Gomel City Executive Committee. From 2001 to 2010, Aleksandr Yakobson was Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee.
From 2010 to 2014, he headed the State Control Committee of Belarus. From 2014 to 2017, he worked as an assistant to Lukashenka — chief inspector in Minsk.
Yakobson was also appointed a deputy of the House of Representatives and was a member of the Council of the Republic.
