In Kazakhstan, five representatives of the higher and senior command staff of the country's Armed Forces were detained in connection with the death of 14 servicemen during exercises in the Caspian Sea.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, the Chief of Staff and the First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces of Kazakhstan, two commanders of military units, the commander of a marine infantry company, and the commander of a boat were granted suspect status. They were placed in a temporary detention facility in the city of Aktau.
The investigation is being conducted under articles on negligent attitude towards service and violation of ship control rules, which led to human fatalities. The tragedy occurred during the "Khazar Korgany — 2026" exercises approximately 43 kilometers from Aktau.

According to the investigation, on September 24, during the disembarkation of servicemen from the "Qaisar" boat in adverse weather conditions, people were swept into the sea. Kazakh law enforcement agencies are investigating how decisions were made regarding the organization and conduct of the combat training mission, whether the weather forecast was taken into account, whether safety requirements were met, and what the technical condition of the boat was.
Initially, it was reported that 19 servicemen were swept into the open sea during exercises in the Mangystau region. Later, the Ministry of Defense clarified that it was about 17 people. Three servicemen were rescued, and 14 others died.
On September 25, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a day of national mourning in the country.
