Former Hitler's Residence 'Eagle's Nest' to be Restored After Fire
Before the fire, this mountain location – now operating as a restaurant – was visited by about 300,000 people annually.

In Bavaria, there are plans to restore the Kehlsteinhaus — a historic building known as 'Hitler's Teahouse,' which was severely damaged by fire recently. Authorities stated that the property was well insured, but restoration will take time, writes Bild.
The fire broke out on Friday evening. Due to snow, ice, and acrid smoke, firefighters had to work in very difficult conditions.
Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann confirmed the intention to restore the building. The Kehlsteinhaus was built in 1937–1938 as a representative residence for the Nazi leadership. Adolf Hitler himself rarely visited it. Since 1952, the building has operated as a restaurant.
A 33-year-old man was detained on suspicion of arson. He was stopped on a mountain road near the building on Saturday night: the motorcyclist was driving without a license plate and, according to media reports, tried to flee. The man lives in Berlin.
The investigation is examining possible motives. A preliminary expert opinion indicates signs of a possible mental illness. The court ordered the suspect to be temporarily placed in a specialized psychiatric facility. However, the police do not rule out a political motive related to the building's history.
