A resident of Donetsk entered Ukraine via Belarus to change her passport and go to live in Europe. It turned out that before that, she fought for Russia
The Security Service of Ukraine detained a resident of Donetsk in the Volyn region, who in February 2022 joined Russia's armed formations and fought against Ukraine. After being dismissed from the Russian army, the woman returned to Ukraine via Belarus to renew her Ukrainian foreign passport and move for permanent residence to one of the European Union countries.
The woman was detained at the Domanovo international road checkpoint when she tried to enter Ukraine from the territory of Belarus. SBU officers documented her crossing the state border, and then detained her in a hotel in the city of Kovel, where she had temporarily stopped.
As the investigation revealed, before the start of the full-scale war, the woman worked as a nurse at the Donetsk Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital. In late February 2022, she voluntarily joined the 91st Separate Rifle Regiment of the 1st Army Corps of Russia's Southern Military District. During her service in the Russian army, she received the rank of sergeant and remained in its ranks until August 2024.
After being dismissed from the Russian armed formations, the woman decided to leave the temporarily occupied part of the Donetsk region for the European Union. For this, she needed to renew her Ukrainian foreign passport.
During the search, a Russian passport, Russian army military IDs, a Russian veteran certificate, and Russian rubles were found with the detainee.
SBU investigators informed the woman of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law, under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She is in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, she faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
