Minsk's "Peleng" builds new facility due to high demand for optics
One of the largest enterprises of the Belarusian military-industrial complex – Peleng JSC – is building a new facility at the intersection of Filimonov and Makayonok streets in Minsk, reports the "Belarusy i rynok" publication.

The five-story building is planned to house the design and production department "Optical Systems". Construction began in late March, and work is now in full swing. The building's framework is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, after which finishing works will begin in winter.
The new facility is called one of Peleng's key projects for this year. It is planned to combine production premises, laboratories, and technological services here.
As noted by the State Military-Industrial Committee, the new site should create more convenient conditions for the development and production of complex optical devices. The construction should also increase the production capacities and technological capabilities of the Belarusian military-industrial complex, closely cooperating with the corresponding Russian one.
On December 2, 2021, even before the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Peleng JSC was included in the sanctions lists of the USA and Canada.
After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Peleng fell under international sanctions. The European Union restricted the company's activities due to its participation in the production and supply of components for Russian artillery and military equipment, including BTR-82A, which are used by Russian troops in the war against Ukraine.
Later, sanctions against Peleng were also introduced by Switzerland, Japan, and New Zealand. In May 2023, Ukraine introduced restrictions, and in August of the same year, the United Kingdom joined them.
In February 2024, the European Union expanded sanctions against the enterprise. In March 2024, several other European countries joined the corresponding package of restrictions, including Switzerland, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Norway, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Ukraine.
In April 2024, the USA also expanded sanctions, including some Peleng executives.
