The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus reported that on September 1, the renowned Belarusian scientist, Academician Aliaksandr Ilyushchanka, passed away. He was 70 years old.
Aliaksandr Ilyushchanka was born on May 26, 1956, in Minsk. In 1978, he graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute and began working in scientific research. Over the years of his career, he rose from an engineer to a laboratory and department head, and in 1997, he became the head of the Institute of Powder Metallurgy. From 2005, he served as the Director General of the State Scientific and Production Association of Powder Metallurgy.
In 2009, Ilyushchanka became a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and joined its Presidium. In 2021, he became an academician of the NASB. He was also an academician of the Belarusian Engineering Academy and served on the editorial boards of several scientific journals.
The scientist's main research was related to powder metallurgy, composite materials, and gas-thermal coatings. He focused on developing new technologies for creating protective coatings capable of operating at high temperatures, as well as new materials for gas turbine engines, energy equipment, and the petrochemical industry.
Ilyushchanka developed a range of new composite materials, metal-ceramic and ceramic powders, as well as materials with increased strength and wear resistance. His research became the basis for the development of a new field — powder high-temperature materials science.
Aliaksandr Ilyushchanka authored over 550 scientific works, including 17 monographs and books, as well as 55 inventions.
In 2001, he was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus for his work on protective powder coatings. In 2006, he was awarded the Francysk Skaryna Medal.
