Kushner: If Ukraine wanted to make concessions on the territorial issue, we would already have an agreement

He sees the task of mediators as finding a creative solution that satisfies both sides.

Special Envoy of the US President Jared Kushner stated that for a peace agreement to end the war, Ukraine's consent to relinquish its territories within the boundaries demanded by Vladimir Putin is missing, reports "Ukrainska Pravda".

"President Putin has outlined his position on what he wants to achieve. If Ukraine wanted to make concessions on this issue, we would have already agreed on the remaining points of the agreement. But Ukraine does not want to do this now. And our job as mediators is to find a creative solution that will not contradict their [Ukraine's] desires, will help achieve the goal, and at the same time will make Russia end the conflict in such a way that both sides can move forward within a system that will prevent a similar recurrence," Kushner said during the annual YES forum in Kyiv on September 12.

Kushner also stated that the task of mediators is to find a "creative solution" that will allow the conflict to be frozen. At the same time, he believes that the territorial issue should be resolved taking into account the situation on the battlefield.

In his speech, the representative of the US president said that both Kyiv and Moscow seem to be experiencing "great pain" and have a "firm intention" to end the war.

"At least now they [the Russians] are saying the right things — that they want to discuss a way to somehow resolve this. President Zelensky, judging by what we have seen, is determined. And judging by what we have heard, President Putin is also striving for this. We just need to find the right formula that will satisfy everyone."

Kushner suggested focusing on business interests and "economic prosperity" after the cessation of hostilities.

It is indicative that precisely during Kushner's reflections on Putin's readiness for real peace negotiations, an air raid siren sounded in Kyiv due to another Russian attack.

Answering a question about how often he plans to visit Kyiv to demonstrate support and facilitate at least a temporary cessation of air strikes, Kushner stated that he prefers to work remotely.

"We are not fans of ostentatious diplomacy. We do what is necessary, by phone or via Zoom… I would like to come when peace comes."
