Muratov Urged Witkoff to Secure Release of Russian Political Prisoners
"When he returns from Moscow, his plane flies empty."

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Dmitry Muratov, spoke about Russian political prisoners in an interview with American TV channel CNN, writes Meduza.
On the TV channel's broadcast, Muratov showed the host and viewers photographs of director Zhenya Berkovich, former municipal deputy Alexei Gorinov, pediatrician Nadezhda Buyanova, and Samara saxophonist Andrey Shabanov, as well as pianist Pavel Kushnir, who died in detention.
He said that, according to lawyers, Berkovich now weighs about 40 kilograms.
For the second time during her detention, she was sent to a punitive isolation cell on a fabricated pretext — allegedly she improperly wore a headscarf, didn't make her bed, and didn't put her hands behind her back quickly enough when demanded by a colony officer.
He also spoke about Alexandra Strilets, whose five-year-old daughter died while her mother is in detention on charges of treason.
Muratov urged American politicians to seek the release of Russian political prisoners, and journalists to tell their stories. Specifically, he called on official representatives of US President Donald Trump in negotiations with Russia — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — to raise the issue of the fate of political prisoners in meetings with Vladimir Putin.
"Mr. Witkoff has already visited Moscow eight or more times. And God grant he continues to visit. But my question is this:
When he returns, his plane flies empty. Why can't he ask Mr. Putin, with whom he has good relations, to free a few political prisoners — so they can fly back with him?" — Muratov asked.
