New Ranking of the World's Most Potato-Consuming Countries Appears
The global potato market is estimated to be worth billions of dollars. In 2025, raw potatoes worth $6.8 billion were sold worldwide, and prepared and frozen potatoes, including French fries, accounted for another $17.45 billion, according to World’s Top Exports.

Among exporters of raw, unprocessed potatoes in 2025, the Netherlands led with $1.3 billion. France was in second place with $1.2 billion, and Germany in third with $746.2 million.
Further down the list were Egypt — $524.1 million, Canada — $381.4 million, China — $378.8 million, USA — $346.1 million, Belgium — $293.9 million, Pakistan — $189.4 million, and the United Kingdom — $182.5 million. These ten countries account for almost 90% of global raw potato exports.
Some countries significantly increased their supplies over the year. For example, Kenya's exports grew by 1113%, China's by 56.4%, and Pakistan's by 34%. At the same time, Italy, Spain, and India reduced their exports.
In the market for prepared and frozen potatoes, including French fries, the leader is different. Belgium takes first place, having exported such products worth $4.5 billion in 2025 — about a quarter of all global exports.
Following Belgium are the Netherlands with $3.3 billion, Canada — $2.2 billion, USA — $1.8 billion, and France — $1.2 billion.
In this segment, China's exports are growing fastest — by 53.1%, India's by 35.6%, and Egypt's by 18.1%. Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Canada, on the other hand, slightly reduced their positions.
Belarus is not included in the global ranking of the largest potato exporters, but Russia remains an important market for it. However, Belarusian supplies there have significantly decreased. In the first five months of 2025, Belarus exported 32 thousand tons of potatoes to Russia, compared to 63.9 thousand tons during the same period in 2024. Thus, the volume of supplies almost halved.
However, by the end of 2024, Belarus was the main supplier of potatoes to Russia — 201.2 thousand tons, which is 60% more than the year before.
The total import of potatoes to Russia for the first five months of 2025 amounted to 548.1 thousand tons — 3.3 times more than during the same period of the previous year.
