A 79-year-old resident of Gomel bought an electric grass trimmer at a discount for 203 rubles. However, still within the warranty period, the device's gearbox broke.

The man contacted the seller demanding to take back the faulty trimmer and return the money for it, but the store ignored his claim.
Then the consumer rights protection society took up the defense of the pensioner's rights. An expert examination was appointed, which confirmed that the cause of the breakdown was a manufacturing defect, not the buyer's fault.
As a result, through the court, the sales agreement was terminated and the seller was obligated to pay the man 203 rubles for the trimmer, 238 rubles in penalty, and 250 rubles as compensation for moral damages.
In addition, a fine of 553 rubles was collected from the seller for the local budget.
Thus, the total amount of payments amounted to 1244 rubles, exceeding the original cost of the trimmer by more than six times.
