The European system for forecasting dangerous thunderstorms, ESTOFEX, has declared a level one alert for parts of Belarus.

The zone of increased danger covers the central and northern regions of Belarus, as well as parts of the Baltic countries. The warning is valid from the morning of September 4 to the morning of September 5, but the most favorable conditions for dangerous phenomena are expected during the day, according to the ESTOFEX forecast, reports "Meteovibe".
Thunderstorm clouds can form quite low, and the movement of air near the ground can cause them to rotate. As a result, an ordinary thunderstorm can, in some cases, turn into an isolated supercell — a powerful thunderstorm system within which air rotates. It is from such clouds that tornadoes sometimes descend.
Level one is the lowest of the three ESTOFEX danger levels. It indicates not an imminent natural disaster, but a small, yet real risk of localized dangerous phenomena.
During a strong thunderstorm, it is best not to stay in open areas, move away from trees, advertising structures, and power lines. If a funnel cloud appears or very strong squally winds begin, it is advisable to take shelter in a sturdy building, move away from windows, and go to a lower floor.
