Uladzimir Arloŭ Reaches Final of Prestigious Polish Literary Award

Belarusian writer Uladzimir Arloŭ with his work «Dances over the City. Three Stories» (translated by Bohdan Zadura) has made it into the list of seven finalists for the Central European Literary Award «Angelus». The award is presented annually by the Wrocław House of Literature for the best prose book written in Polish or translated into Polish, writes Budzma.org.

This year's finalists include:

Uladzimir Arloŭ (Belarus);
Serhiy Zhadan (Ukraine);
Georgi Gospodinov (Bulgaria);
Yuliya Ilyukha (Ukraine);
Milena Marković (Serbia);
Kateřina Tučková (Czech Republic);
Joanna Czeczot (Poland).

«I am convinced that among this year's nominees there are also future Nobel Prize laureates», — says the chairman of the award jury, Andrei Khadanovich.

The official announcement of the award winners will take place on October 17 in Wrocław. This will be part of the Bruno Schulz Festival, during which, among other things, readings of excerpts from the nominated works and a discussion with the participation of translators are planned.

The winner will receive an award of 150,000 Polish złoty (about 40.6 thousand dollars), making «Angelus» the highest literary award granted in Poland in financial terms. Additionally, prizes of 5,000 Polish złoty (about 1355 dollars) are awarded to all authors whose books reached the final.
