The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry compared Germany's actions with events on the eve of World War II.
Sergei Lavrov called Germany's actions after the discovery of mined drones near Leipzig/Halle airport "the beginning of a real war." He stated this in an interview with Russian propagandist Pavel Zarubin.
"Leipzig, the airport... They found some drone there. They said: this is a Russian drone. No one bothered to investigate. This, in general, by and large, is the beginning of such a real war," Lavrov said.
In early August, several drones with explosives were found near Leipzig/Halle airport. One of them was located next to a Ukrainian military transport plane, the other - not far from the airport.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that the perpetrators of the "hybrid attack" acted on behalf of Russian state structures. After this, Germany closed the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the "Russian House" in Berlin, and also tightened control over Russians entering the country.
"I remember that before the beginning of World War II, or rather, the Great Patriotic War, the Germans also closed their diplomatic missions," Lavrov commented on this.
He also stated that Chancellor Friedrich Merz "is going, well, essentially, to declare war on us."
"It turned out that these metastases of Nazism are starting to break through. This is a dangerous phenomenon. It seems to me that the Russian leadership will draw appropriate conclusions," added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Meanwhile, the German authorities are preparing a plan to combat Russian hybrid attacks. Special police units to combat drones are planned to be deployed in nine strategically important cities. They will protect airports, train stations, the government quarter in Berlin, and other critical infrastructure facilities.
