The authors of the statement called Russia's full-scale invasion a violation of the UN Charter and called for a ceasefire and resumption of negotiations.

The USA was not among the 50 states that joined the joint statement on Ukraine, voiced on August 24 at the UN. Among those who signed the statement were all EU countries, including Hungary and Slovakia, as well as Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Ukraine, reports Dozhd.
The authors of the statement called Russia's full-scale invasion a violation of the UN Charter and called for a ceasefire and resumption of negotiations.
«We strongly urge Russia to respond to calls for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire and to resume negotiations on a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine,» the appeal states.
The participants of the statement reaffirmed support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and also called for accountability for crimes committed during the war. In addition, they advocated for the completion of prisoner exchanges, the release of illegally detained persons, and the return of forcibly displaced and deported Ukrainians, including children.
The appeal also mentions violations of European countries' airspace, attacks on vessels and port infrastructure in the Black Sea, and the consequences of the war for global food security. The statement was made on the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
The USA also did not join joint statements by state delegations to the UN on Ukraine, voiced on February 24, 2025, February 24, 2026, and May 26, 2026.
